Blaise Hayward was born in Canada and in 1996 moved to New York, where for decades he has operated a commercial photography studio also producing editorial and fine-art images.
Known for his high-energy and passion, Blaise has the ability to generate and capture a moment of unique connection with people. Specializing in expressive portraiture, he has shot a diverse range of subjects from Fortune 500 CEOs to cancer survivors.
In recent years Blaise has expanded into video, filming commercials and short interviews, in addition to vignettes that function like extended portraits.
“I put my subjects at ease and assist them in letting their guard down,” Blaise notes. “This is not something I do consciously, it comes naturally to me. It is part of my personality. If someone happens to be apprehensive or uneasy in front of the camera, I sense an opportunity, not a challenge, and do not let the spontaneity of the moment go unrecorded.”
Blaise’s enthusiasm for forging and representing human connections also informs his artistic sensibilities. In 2021 he began exhibiting fine-art images, first presenting two portraiture series DUSK and The Honest Portrait in New York. He also creates a range of other fine-art images, as well as sculptures.
His editorial photography has appeared in publications such as Sports Illustrated, O: The Oprah Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Money, Real Simple, Glamour, Fast Company, and Harper’s.
Some of his commercial clients include Citibank, Verizon, Pfizer, JP Morgan Chase, The Hartford, Bank of America, Bridgestone, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Accenture, Harvard University, GlaxoSmithKline, Procter & Gamble, New York University, ABC, Novartis, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, AOL, Bayer, American Express, Mastercard, Benjamin Moore, Sanofi Aventis, Merck, Razorfish, Holiday Inn, The History Channel, L’Oreal, Movado, Wyeth, Kraft, NYU, Central Park Conservancy, HBO, ConocoPhillips, Sprint, American Century Investments, and UBS.
